The Witness Beat - 2024 I have attempted for a long time to mix religion and music. This was my first attempt an overtly religious concept. I've always been intrigued by the implications of the legend of Robert Johnson. Supposedly, selling your soul to the devil makes you into the best musician. But if God is more powerful , why is there so much bad Christian music? What would God's music look like if fully realized? I found some answers in attending black churches and deep diving into the history of black gospel music. Which was a direct inspiration for this project. Most people do not understand that blues and gospel are like 2 sides of the same coin. Typified by 2 different ways of dealing with suffering. This project is on the shelf for now because I found that having an overtly religious band name creates too much expectation for every song and lyric to be about God. I felt like I wanted to distance myself from Christianity as well because these politicans are doing something else and calling it Christianity, and I dont want to be associated with them. And I don't strictly adhere to the dogma, I think Jesus was probably just a man.
honeymoonphase 2018-2019 This was a project born from a feeling of defeat. I was going through deep depression and using drugs at the time. but I still felt a need to create. Basically, it was my biggest reason to keep living, so I relaxed myself and came up with whatever things I could, and it ended up being this album. The band played only a few shows before disbanding.
The Huckleberry Fins 2012-2015 This was my first band after spending a long time trying to learn guitar by myself. It was an attempt to expand the genre of "surf guitar" music...mostly becasue I saw it as a vessel for creative guitar-centric music that wasnt always the main focus in other genres. I mixed in ideas I had from learning a little jazz, etc. My goal was to create something that was beautiful and deep and mix it with the raw and wild abandon of punk and other agressive music. The trio played shows around rochester NY, eventually releasing a 12" and playing a few shows in NYC then it was done. The bandcamp says there are records and tapes for sale still but I dont have any. Ive lost the email/password to the account.
